  • Model Overview

The Piccolo frame is made of 28mm diameter tubes (including the front crossbar and the longitudinal bars). The axle has a diameter of 30mm. This may vary depending on the Country and its local regulations, as there are also one piece 25 mm diameter axles. The frame has an eight-curve geometric structure (characterised by the central curve). This makes it a refined frame which is able to adapt to the diverse conditions of grip and track.

The design in some areas, such as the centre crossbar, strongly resembles that of its older brother Golden. Evidence that a lot of the experience poured into the Grand and Golden models is the same as that used on the entire range of frames on the models dedicated to kids.

There are specific requirements for this type of kart, such as for instance the bar under the seat fitted in the opposite direction and inclination on the Piccolo compared to what we see on the Golden version. This is because the load transfer during braking with this kind of kart, given the low weights involved, is much lower than those on “normal” karts. A workaround solution was therefore devised that makes the kart faster and smoother when tackling the curves, a sore point for “minikarts” in general.

  • General Features

All versions of the Piccolo model are the result of the experience gained by Praga with Intrepid and the years spent on race tracks all over the world in higher categories. Once again, as in the case of its “big brothers” it uses tubes made from unique and specific compounds of various steels. No standard steel compounds already on the market have been used, as Praga has created “special recipes” for the production of these tubes. What are the benefits? You achieve maximum elasticity of the material according to the different conditions of adherence and grip on the various tracks and in different championships around the world. It is also possible to simulate the damping/suspension effect of racing cars that should congenitally be absent in karts for obvious reasons. This research on materials is constantly being refined in order to get maximum performance and obtain a vehicle that is fast regardless of the type of tire being used.

    Design

The whole design project focused primarily on the containment of the total weight of the vehicle. Given the limited output available, research was conducted on the frame to achieve a smooth-sliding action so as to exploit the low hp provided by engines under 100cc. To achieve this, we intervened, for example, on the bearing carrier plates which do not completely enclose the bearing flanges. This is because, often, when using the 30mm diameter regulatory axles, you have to be able to achieve maximum smoothness from the flexions on the rear axle. Particular attention was also given to the study of the pedals. The kiddie-drivers using this kind of kart have the widest possible variety of size and weight, as they are all still in their growing phases. To ensure that all of them can drive comfortably, regardless of their build, we have designed a multi-functional plate with: closer coupling for the pedals, a footrest and lower steering column support.

    Realization

The standard used to manufacture the Mini and Baby karts is identical to that used for the higher kart categories. So Praga Piccolo will have the same attention to detail and the same quality standards. The brake calliper, braking system pump and the bearing carrier flanges are all one-piece parts, so no skimping to make savings on the final product. The built-in adjustable foot rests are the perfect example of quality construction. Like the hubs and the stitched steering wheel customised with the Praga logo. The flatbed is also covered with non-slip adhesive and the graphics kit is also new, fully aligned with those used on the larger racing models.

  • Praga Piccolo

Praga presents its Piccolo model for the Mini and Baby categories. There are several different versions of this model in order to achieve conformity with the regulations enforced by the various national karting federations. The Piccolo is therefore available in three versions with different pitches: 900, 950 and 1010mm.
